Jesse Jackson Will Fight To ‘Prohibit’ Public Use of N-Word
Tuesday, November 28th, 2006Many black people tend to say hey, we are taking something negative and turning it into a positive. However, there are many black people, like myself who say, that turning a negative into a positive excuse, is a bunch of crap. I have talked with my father, mother, aunts, uncles and other older black people, who have said that it is a slap in the face to them and all our ancestors every time we call each other that word.
The definition of the word has changed as defined by Merriam-Webster. They are:
- usually offensive
- and the addition of Its use by and among blacks is not always intended or taken as offensive…
The black community has taken a word that was deemed offensive and made it usually offensive. Yet many black want to make people like Michael Richard’s out to be such bad people when they use it. Why because they are not black. *Cough* Double Standard *Cough*.
Now the big issue people are looking at is how will Jesse Jackson get Hollywood (TV/movies), comedians and hip-hop/rap artist to stop using that word. Well I don’t know, but I do agree that’s a great place to start because today’s youth, no matter what the race, is influence by greatly by what they see and hear, but I think the fight can be won at a greater rate if the plan of attack is changed. Start at home, the best place to start is at home, in the black community. The responsibility is on all of us parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, godparents, and friends. It’s my opinion that every idea/fad that is used by any and all entertainers, for the most part, come from everyday people and when everyday people put down and abhor the use of that word then it will fade away.
