Seven years later…
Jeffrey Zeldman wrote an excellent post on The lessons of September 11, 2002. There are two sentences in that post made me think about today and the ’08 election.
Mr. Zeldman stated, “But people told me if we couldn’t hold web design conferences on September 11th, then the terrorists had won.” Many people, and I remember President Bush being one of those many people, said that if we did not move towards carrying on in our lives as usual then the terrorist had won.
So seven years later I think the terrorists are still winning, we have not caught “him”. We do not know where he is or if he is even alive. My mom and I think that he is hanging out in the White House shooting pool and playing dominos with the President.
What happened to prayer in schools? Oh that’s right, we took it out but, it was ok for us to pray that day and the day after in school because of what just happened. Guess we do not need God right now.
I was just reminded listening to the radio and what happened to the National Anthem? We used to see it on tv seven years ago. Well for a short period we did.
What happened to all the unity, the flags on t-shirts, houses and cars? I wonder how much money was made selling all those flags?
The election is right around the corner and we are at each others throats, probably more so now than then. Seven years later and we are worse off, I think. We have fallen right back into what we were before we were attacked. A country divided.
